Roger Hollings
Having gained his law degree in 1976, Roger went into the advertising industry. Over the next 25 years Roger worked as a client service director on and with a wide range of major international clients including Mars and Procter & Gamble. His career took him from London to the Middle East and a three year stint in Moscow followed by a European Director’s role based in London looking after 11 countries.
The client service director role proved a natural lead-in to mediation as it required the ability to balance the often conflicting needs of demanding clients on the one hand and the creative personnel at the agency on the other, in order to find a solution with which both were content.
In 2003 Roger’s commercial experience was further widened when he helped start and run a new business in the Lone Worker safety field – from early days with two to three people it has grown to be a highly respected and fully fledged service provider with hundreds of customers – including the police, the Post Office, National Trust as well as councils, housing associations, hotel chains schools and security companies.
Roger is an accredited mediator, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators since 2009 and over the last three years has done numerous mediations in his own right as well as assisting leading mediators such as Andrew Paton, David Richbell, Liz Birch and Beverley Ann Rogers.
As a mediator, he is able to use his facilitative skills over a wide range of subject matters and sizes of claim. He believes that the skill and experience of a mediator outweigh the need for specialised legal knowledge relating to a particular dispute. Ultimately it is the people involved that matter most.
Roger also works with the Hastings & Rother Mediation Service, a charity that deals with community mediation and interpersonal issues.
Recent Feedback: “Excellent service in a difficult probate dispute”. (Defendant) “I felt that you dealt with the matter extremely well and thank you for ensuring the case settled” (Claimant) “This was the first commercial mediation I had participated in (I am a family specialist) and I was impressed. The process was straightforward and your contribution was central to the resolution”. “Many thanks. You are now officially on our preferred mediators list … we will be in touch again” “During the course of the mediation Roger demonstrated patience, tolerance, good listening and problem solving skills.” “Roger’s approach allowed the process to evolve using subtle skills to keep the mediation process alive. He gave both counsels the opportunity to air key factual and legal issues without allowing them to take over the process.” “Roger quickly assessed the individuals involved and used his skill as a mediator to overcome the apparent intransigence of one side while keeping the other party interested and staying with the process.” “Roger showed tremendous skill in keeping the mediation, which was almost impossible from the start, moving forwards to suitable conclusion.”
